Description:
A nice very rare extremely fine or better copper-nickel 1868 Shield Nickel or Five-Cent piece. The coin itself is better than the scan shows and has very fine details. The date is very readable and the motto is also clear and stands out. The coin has minimum wear to the rim especially on the reverse. It shows minimum wear to the leaves on the obverse as well as the shield with most shield lines being visible. The coin has wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. The coin is truly beautiful and has good eye appeal. These coins were designed by James Longacre. Early US coins such as this are gradually getting difficult to find. I would grade this coin as a nice extremely fine or better. The coin has wear commensurate with its age. The coin is problem free and is very nice. A definite quality and rare coin. Please see photo to appreciate condition and beauty of the coin.
