Antique Henry Hart Cast Iron Mailbox Ornate Scrollwork Satyr Snake 1889 PatentMore than 12 photos, please scroll below description to see photos 13 and higher.
Beautiful cast iron wall mount mailbox, produced by the Henry C. Hart Manufacturing Company of Detroit. The patent date is February 26, 1889.
There is a satyr head at bottom center, and a snake underlining the word Mail. Overall, a nice ornate design with lots of scrollwork, and surely a satyr and a snake can keep your mail safe?
Measures approximately 13" long x 5-3/8" wide x 3" deep, and weighs 4 pounds.
This still has the original back, which is probably zinc. It also has the original size limit bar, which can be removed if a bigger mail slot is desired. Most of these bars are long gone from this model. There is no key and thus it will not latch at this time, but a skeleton key can be adapted to work by a locksmith. A very nice item.
In very nice used condition with a small amount of rust. Hinges and mounting slots in nice shape. The spring pin on the lock mechanism moves freely. No key.
