    Description

This had been in the storage stock of the well-known Authentiques antique store in NYC for decades. As the store is closing after 45 years, it finally saw the light of day. Made by the West Side Buiders' Iron works and originally was at 400 West Street in Greenwich Village along what was then the West Side Elevated Highway. It must have been replaced by the city at some point when the new street level section of the highway was being built/argued over in the long wake of the elevated highway's failure in 1973. This thinner, 20lb cover would have been wholly inappropriate for the type of traffic on the current incarnation of the west side highway. Late 19th early 20th century is my best guess for this cover. The three feet on the bottom of the cover are intact though somewhat camouflaged by old rust in the photos. The ring is extremely rusty and fused in place by the corrosion. There are even a few spots of what is either ancient gum or tar but it is hard to tell at this point. This would be ideal for something like reclaim furniture or display if mounted in a safe manner. Slightly under 17 3/4" in diameter. All fair offers considered. Thank you for looking.
