Antique Clay Terra Cotta Roof Rooster
Estate sale find from the home of collectors of kinds of cool things
There were four clay birds available at the sale as well as one top roof tile.
This bird is in good antique condition.  He has two wings on the sides are made in a different way than the other two birds listed.  The wings are attached to the sides and curve over the side of the body. He a raised arched tail that is split in the back to fit over the peaked tile.
This rooster is missing his top comb, leaving him with a flat top,  and one side of the waddle under the neck is also missing.
There are two raised circles for his eyes. There are nice lines etched in the back and raised sections across the wings and on the tail to represent feathers.
On the underside there is a cut out square that would fit on a raised square to hold the tile in place.  The cut out square measures about 2" square and is 1.5" deep.
The bird has a flat oval shape bottom and his body sits nicely on a table or stand along with his tail that sits flat with the body.  He is 7" tall to the top of his head, and measures about 13" long from his beak to the end of the tail.  5" wide across on the side wings, the tail is just under 4" tall.
