Zain quits as PTI’s deputy parliamentary leader

ISLAMABAD: Pakis­tan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) legislator Zain Qureshi on Saturday resigned as the party’s deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly.
The announcement was made after the issuance of a show-cause notice to Mr Qureshi that he was not in contact at the time of the passage of 26th Amendment.
The PTI has been suspecting that Mr Qureshi was present in Parliament House on the occasion of the passage of the 26th Amen­dment, as the government wanted to use his vote in case of failing to get the two-thirds majority.
“Based on my belief for a free and transparent inquiry and in recognition of the sentiment of our party supporters, I am resigning from my role as Deputy Parliamentary Lea­der. I do so until and unless I have the confidence and trust of my party and our Founding Chairman, Imran Khan,” he stated in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Also in the interest of public transparency for all PTI supporters, I have now replied formally to my show cause notice providing a comprehensive account. I was, am and will remain faithful to my party, to my leader @ImranKhanPTI and to my father @SMQureshiPTI and all that he stands for,” Mr Qureshi stated.
PTI leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi had issued show-cause notices to Mr Qureshi, Riaz Fatyana, Aslam Ghumman and Miqdad Ali Khan asking why they were not in contact with the party leadership.
The party leader directed to submit reply to the show-cause notice within seven days.
They were told that their party membership might be cancelled if they failed to submit the response within the given time frame.
